Addictions
What is Addiction?
‘Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.’ Maria Robinson
According to the NHS, an estimated 2 million people in the UK are fighting addiction. That’s approximately one in three of us, so if you are one of them you are certainly not alone. They are generally defined as compulsive and repetitive behaviours linked to a reward, despite negative consequences.
Unwanted habits and addictions can take many forms, some familiar, others not so. They can include:
- Alcohol
- Gambling
- Smoking
- Drugs, prescribed and recreational
- Technology, including mobile phones and gaming
- Fizzy drinks
- Sex addiction
Many other forms of addictions have been noted and the impact they can have on personal relationships, health, work and our overall quality of life can be immense. Any need or habit that we have that we consider to be getting out of control is at risk of becoming an addiction and the sooner we address it, the easier it is to overcome. While effort and a desire to change is required to combat them, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can certainly significantly help the process
