What is Anxiety?
8.3 million people were recorded as suffering from anxiety in the UK in 2013* and many more will have been suffering in silence. A Government study examined 58,700 fit notes issued to 25,000 patients between October 2011 and January 2013 and found that more than one in three absences were due to stress and anxiety. So if you suffer from anxiety, you are certainly not alone and just by making your way to this page, you have started your journey to getting the real you back again.
Many people come to Bon Accord Hypnotherapy in Banchory seeking help for anxiety and the wide range of symptoms associated with it. These can include:
- Panic attacks
- Difficulties sleeping, concentrating and making decisions
- Physical ailments
- Teeth grinding
- Nail biting
- Excessive worrying
- Irritability and anger
- Mood swings
The list goes on and on. For some it can mean an ongoing lack of confidence and self-doubt, for others, it can become overwhelming and debilitating.
The good news is that there is no evidence that anxiety is a lifelong condition. The latest research from neuroscience tells us clearly that the anxiety response is our brain's way of protecting us. But our brain gets it wrong sometimes. It draws upon our primitive fight, flight or freeze responses designed for life-threatening situations. It overgeneralises these responses though, applying them to more and more everyday experiences that are not life-threatening. These responses are programmed at a subconscious level – we don’t have to think about reacting this way, it just happens. So our attempts to consciously think and talk our way into a calm response may not work.
How can Solution Focused Hypnotherapy help?
Getting your life back just how you want it to be is possible. Right from the very first initial consultation, you will learn how our brains and thought processes create feelings of anxiety. Research clearly tells us that it isn’t actually events in our lives that cause anxiety but rather it is what we think about them.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy helps you to see things from a different perspective. The Hypnotherapy element allows our subconscious behavioural responses to become more appropriately applied to everyday life. Relaxation and breathing techniques allow your mind to become calm. By learning to focus on what is good and on finding positive solutions for moving forward in your life, you can get back to feeling happy, calm and in control again. You may even discover that your life is even better than it has ever been before!
